Leading With Passion

Does your team know why you do what you do?

As entrepreneurs, we all want a really motivated team, and we also want to feel motivated ourselves. So few of us realize the importance of openly expressing our passion with those around us, but it’s the key to giving your team energy and confidence about what you do.

Sharing your enthusiasm is second to none when it comes to reaching people and building the right team. In my experience, to be really successful in business, it’s a heart game as much as it is a head game.

Follow this guide and start doing business with people who believe what you believe.

  1. Passion is contagious.
If you’ve had the opportunity to work alongside someone who’s passionate about what they do, you’ve experienced how exciting and rewarding this can be. People are much more likely to buy into ideas, take risks, or provide you with their creativity and resources if they can feel how committed you are to your cause. Clients will notice, as well, and want to work with you so they can share in your energy.
  2. Passion goes hand in hand with purpose.
Perhaps one of the most rewarding things in life is to spend every day working in a business you believe in—trumping both money and status. Ask yourself if what you’re doing engages you. Does it excite you? Will it make a difference? And if you’ve found this, make sure to express it—too many people underappreciate the value and impact this can have.
  3. Passion attracts the right people and resources.
I’ve always been interested in how to bring the right people together and engage them. The answer: Be intentional and make sure your heart is involved. When you’re enthusiastic about what you’re doing, great people and resources will come onto your path because they’ll feel an emotional connection to you and what you’re doing.
  4. Passion is a language everyone understands.
In Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, one of the parables in the novel is about the language of enthusiasm. It’s a language everyone in the world understands because it centers on things being accomplished with love and purpose, in search for something to believe in and desire.

This is why I make sure to bring enthusiasm to things that are important to me and why I love working with people who have similar passions to my own. Passionate people are resourceful, and they’ll do whatever it takes to make their vision come true. It also brings out the best teamwork and the best results. So share whatever it is that ignites you and watch how quickly it attracts those who are aligned with you!
